d.i.y. necklace display

For me, reaching into my jewelry box to grab a necklace only to find that it is now tangled around and permanently attached to three more necklaces is one of the most frustrating daily occurrences! It takes forever to get necklaces untangled, but it just looks yucky sometimes to hang them all up. That's why I made this display. It keeps my necklaces untangled and also makes a great piece of art! My favorite part about this is the paint chips because I can always change these up whenever I'm feeling in the mood to do so!

What you'll need: One unfinished wood mirror or picture frame, paint in your choice of color, a paintbrush, cork tiles (available at any craft store-- I ended up using 2 packs of 8 and having 2 left over, but the size of your frame will decide how many to use!), paint chips, things to decorate your paint chips (if you wish!) and push pins.

1. Start out by painting the wooden frame. It doesn't matter if you get paint in the center, that is going to be covered up anyway. If you want the paint to be one solid color, you may need to do multiple coats because the wood will soak the paint right up. I wanted the natural grain to show through so I only used one coat of paint. I used a large paintbrush with very soft bristles and gentle strokes to achieve this aged-wood look.

2. While you're waiting for the paint to dry, decorate your paint chips! I used self-adheisive glitter paper and scrapbooking paper. I also wrote an inspiring quote on one of the chips! You can do whatever you'd like though, and the beauty of using the paint chips is that you can change them up as often as you'd like.

3. Layer on your cork tiles. Rip some sides to add a little extra texture. To stick mine to the mirror, I used some strong double-sided tape that came with them but you can use whichever kind of adheisive you'd prefer. Add your paint chips.

4. Hang your necklaces and enjoy never having to untangle a mess of chains again!
