Bedroom Tour

I know, I know, I've been talking about doing a post like this for quite some time. I just don't have the right lens for taking indoor photos, there's usually a small pile of clothes on the floor, and when I have free time, I don't usually think to take photos of my space. Yesterday, however, my room had to be photo-ready for a project a friend of mine was working on so I got to snap a few detail shots of my decor. It's nothing special but I think my room is pretty cozy so I decided to share. So without further ado, let me show you where the magic happens.

Home + Style

This corner is my favorite space in my cozy little room. It's perfectly lit in the morning and nice and toasty by the radiator. Ever since redoing my room last fall, I've found that my personal style has started to reflect the design of my room. Lots of black and white. Clean lines. Intentional color. Is it a coincidence that we tend to mimic our surroundings?

New & Different

Sometimes change is necessary. The seasons are shifting, I'm turning 23 in a week or so, and my creative juices are flowing. Instead of my usual "I'm going to take a trip somewhere," I decided to redecorate. Redecorating is something that always feels really great. It's a wonderful way to start over; even seeing a new paint color cover the old is somewhat cathartic. Who couldn't use a little catharsis every once in a while? (Oh, and thanks for photobombing me, Juno.)

Before: I actually don't mind the "before" at all. It's cozy. I wanted a change though, which is why I  kissed that soft seafoam green "goodbye" and traded that green chevron stripe rug for a similar but more geometric one.
I like it. It's classy but still very "me" -- a hodgepodge of sorts but everything is still somehow cohesive. Staining my bed was the best decision I've ever made. It came out unexpectedly well and I now believe in the power of the stain. Seriously, if you want to make a big impact on a budget, stain a piece of furniture. WOWZA.

Around the House

I love the appreciation that my roommates have for details. Our little living space is filled with so many gems. Having trouble making your house into a home? Some plants, throw pillows, books, and pretty bottles seem to be the key.

A Little Bit New

You may have noticed that I haven't been around much this past week. Can you see why now? It's been an exciting few days. A harrowing journey in a sense, but exciting nonetheless. I've been exploring, decorating, putting together Ikea furniture, laying awake at night, shopping for "grown up" things, working... doing basically everything but blogging. Now that the week is coming to a close and I finally have a chance to sit down, I'm crashing hard. It's 11:00 and my usual night-owl self is 1,000% ready for bed but I HAD to share this important little update with you all before I tuck myself in for the night. Here's to new beginnings! See you guys tomorrow.

home away from home

Little details have the amazing power to turn a house into a home. That's all I have to say this morning, I'm off to the beach! Hope you all have a great day.

sometimes, may flowers are fake.

Besides the rose bushes outside of my first-story bedroom window, the rest of the flowers around my humble abode lately are fake. I blame it on the rain for killing them all and my allergies for not letting me have fresh flowers in the house even though I often do anyway. June, send some flowers please?
