Bella Vista

Bella Vista. It's Italian for "beautiful sight" so I couldn't think of  better name for this neighborhood. It's picturesque, dotted by colorful murals and mosaics on nearly every corner. Danielle and I grabbed our new pal Gogo to soak up the local color at Rally, the neighborhood's newest gem.

Coffee with Friends

Slowly but surely posting all of the photos from the wedding and trip, including these we took before even heading to the airport. Violet and I have been online friends since I was 16. Flickr and our love of Eisley and Blythe Dolls brought us together. She and her husband Grant only had a short time in Philly so we maximized their time with us by bringing them to our favorite coffee joint. We had breakfast, fancy lattes, and good conversation. Grant snapped some candids. (And some not-so-candids.)

Lady Date: Not Another First Friday

I always talk about how much I love First Fridays. To be fair though, what's not to love about them? There's free booze, a reason to browse through art galleries, and prime people-watching. I always feel like I need to step up my outfit game for First Friday because the Philly's most fashionable all emerge and descend upon Old City for the occasion.

Open Letter to an Old Friend

Dear Old Friend,

You got married. I have absolutely no doubt that you looked positively stunning. I know that when you saw your groom for the first time, your eyes must have filled with tears, your heart overflowing with the purest kind of joy. Despite the hurt and anger that I'd been harboring for the past few months, I spent my Friday powering through pangs of sadness. I felt nostalgia, tenderness, and tiny moments of regret. Would you have awkwardly asked me for "wedding night" advice? How many times would I get misty-eyed? Would we exchange knowing looks at any point?

Portraits, 001

"A portrait is not made in the camera but on either side of it.” - Edward Steichen

I really love photographing people. It's not that landscapes and other various inanimate objects aren't interesting to me, it's just that nothing pulls my heart strings quite like the sentiment of immortalizing a moment. As human beings, we are capable of such an astonishing range of emotions and once we're felt one, we can never feel exactly the same way ever again. A properly-executed portrait captures that fleeting moment and keeps it for eternity. Photographs reveal so much about the subject and the photographer. I've gotten to know my friends so much better through my 30mm lens.

Lady Date in Nashville: What We Wore

A lot has changed since our last photographed lady date in New York this past February. Instead of freezing our booties off, we were soaking up the warm, humid Tennessee sunshine. If we look a little tired in these photos, it's because we were. Twelve hours of driving is a lot! We were up by 7AM every morning and in bed before 9:30 every night. Wild and crazy twenty-something behavior, am I right? We even made a Lowe's trip. (Wait-- that's not normal?)

Camping

If you're been following along on Instagram then you know that Danielle and I took a road trip to Nashville last week. We decided that escaping city life was an absolute necessity so we stopped at Cherokee National Forest on the way home for a night in the wilderness. Camping isn't as bad as it's cracked up to be; I'm a huge fan of roasting veggies over an open fire, exploring, and settling down to enjoy the soft breeze with a good book. My phone died, which was the best thing that could have happened. No email, no texts, no distractions. It was as if the "reset" button was pressed, which I've found is an important thing to do every once in a while.

Lady Date in Times Square: What We Wore

Wow! I haven't posted here in a while. Mark this down as one of the busiest weeks of my life. Fashion week, finishing up weddings, freelancing, going hard at the gym, trying to stay warm, etc. It's been a bit of a doozy and this weekend won't be much different. Anywho, Danielle and I decided to dress to the nines for New York. We looked good and were only a tiny bit cold. (She's from Florida and she wasn't complaining.)

Lady Date in Times Square

Yesterday, Danielle and I went up to New York to catch a fashion show and to treat ourselves to a little post-Galentine's dinner. It was a day full of wonderfully womanly adventures. We made it through skewed train schedules, a sub-zero windchill, and the looming threat of becoming irreparably "hangry." Isn't that the best thing about girlfriends though? If you've got a good one, you'll still have fun despite all that. Oh, and Rosé helps too.

BOSSLADIES: Melissa Alam

Melissa Alam, Philadelphia, entrepreneur, business, woman, "The Hive",
From Race Street, it's just like any other building. Large windows, exposed brick and bustling conference tables are the norm in Old City, after all. As I open the door to walk inside, I'm greeted with a floral scent and the sound of keyboards clicking. Hard-working women are hunched over their MacBooks, cold brew in hand and an undeniable air of camaraderie between them. Despite its tall ceilings, it's not threatening in the least bit. In fact, it's quite welcoming. I instantly understand what sets this space apart from the rest.

Lazy Weekend

Habibi

حبيبي: My beloved. It was this lady's birthday the other day. We got dressed up, ate some tacos, had some margaritas, and laughed a lot. Life is so great when you have a best friend to laugh at incredibly dumb things with.

Bonjour!

Sorry for my somewhat spontaneous posting schedule this week. It's a mix of getting used to my new schedule and being intentional about my quiet times lately. Next week will be more on the "normal" side (what is normal though?) but for now, I'm just enjoying life and life has been wonderful. I'm on Cloud 9 with my new job. I love what I do and I love the people I work with. Today, I spent some quality time with my new pal (and Philly newbie) Carly. She's a New York gal and I'm slowly showing her the wonders of America's Birthplace. On this particularly dreary day, we got our French on, complete with soy cappuccinos, fancy salads, and half a dozen macarons with which to surprise my family. (The best kind of surprise.) We visited Parc and Miel in Rittenhouse. If you're ever in the area, they're absolutely worth checking out. Can you tell that I'm trying to get all of you guys to come visit Philly? Is it kind of working?

My Dear Friend & The Rain

There is nothing like a good rainy day. This day in particular personified my feelings on life and other things in a beautifully tragic way. It was cold, the rain started out slow and steady and continued until it was pouring down in torrents. I'm thankful to have a best friend who is willing to wander through fields and forests amidst a downpour only for the sake of a few photographs.

Nashville Snapshots

Took a sort of "unintentional hiatus" from blogging this past week. Whoops! I'm not too sorry about it though because it just means that we had more fun than we planned in Nashville. Hanging out with old friends, blazing new trails, and falling in love with the city and the people in it. We even went to a hockey game! I can't wait to share more, and I also can't wait to go back.

p.s. if you're planning a trip to Nashville any time soon, do yourself a favor and visit some of our favorite places: Sky Blue Café, The Pancake Pantry, Burger Up, Las Paletas, Silly Goose, and Jeni's

Amber & The Cold

Braved the Philly chill and took some photos of the lovely Amber. I tried to shoot and edit in a slightly different style than the usual. What do you think?
