diy rustic tree trunk chalkboard

This is one of my favorite DIY projects to far. It's a perfect rustic touch that would fit into most decors and is especially great for college life. The best part is that it cost me about $10 to make it!

What you need: A chunk of wood, (I found mine at the craft store with the unfinished picture frames but I've also seen them with the woodworking supplies.) chalkboard paint, a paintbrush, chalk, and sturdy lace/crocheted ribbon. I also used a hammer and two small nails to attach the lace to the wood but a stapler (a big one, not an office one) would work well also.

Paint the wood with the chalkboard paint. I left a little bit of a border but you don't have to! You're going to want to use two coats, leaving an hour or so for each coat to dry. Once both coats are dry, you can attach your lace. Before you write on the chalkboard, you're going to want to prepare the surface. You can do this by laying a piece of chalk on its side and rubbing it on the chalkboard and then rubbing it in with your hand. The dust left behind will make writing on the chalkboard much easier.
