Lace & Rust

"I'm gonna ask you a question, but you aren't going to like it. Are you a pagan? You got the outfit." A woman said that to me while we were taking these photos. I'm laughing about it now but it was an incredibly odd moment. Between her deadpan expression and seemingly genuine concern, it was one of the few rare moments I've been taken back to the point of absolute confusion-- speechless and confounded. I had no response and even now, no snide remarks. I'm still wondering what she meant though.

I never really explore Center City. It's a shame because every time I go, I leave with a story like that one. I also love that making the trip there serves as a reason to get dressed up. For this outfit, I drew inspiration from the buildings that line Walnut Street. Philadelphia is full of sleek, modern architecture (like my skirt) and old buildings with lots of flowery details. (Like my top.) 

Rust is a favorite of mine. (I mean... I wear this hat pretty much every day so...) I think it looks good on everybody and it's festive without being too over the top. Perfect for an afternoon of shopping and people watching, right? I also love how well it pairs with black. If you need to quirky combination that's still got some sophistication, try it out.

I tend to avoid City Hall because it's such not a very tranquil place and since I don't live or work around there, I don't go out of my way to get there. If you're visiting, or even if you live here, I suggest sitting in the courtyard with a notebook or a snack and watching the crowds bustle by. Being surrounded by such chaos is peaceful in its own way.
