styling tips for any season

One thing that having this blog has done for me is that it has made me step back and take a look at the contents of my wardrobe in a different light. Even before I started the blog, I made a resolution to think outside of the box when it comes to outfits. I'd abused my endless supplies of black jeggings, oversized tees and flannels and knitted slouchy beanies for too long and had to incorporate more feminine, flattering, and creative items of clothing into my everyday ensembles. They couldn't just be for church and special occasions anymore! Over the past number of months, I've shared a few outfits and in looking back at them, I noticed some patterns forming. Here's what I noticed, in the form of tips to you!

1. Find a color that you look great in and ROCK IT: I fought yellow for a long time. I always hoped that I could be one of those girls who could wear pale pink and peach and look perfect in it but nope. I wore a pink dress once and somebody told me that from far away, I looked naked. They probably needed glasses but still. Wearing a shade so close to one's skin color isn't usually a good idea but I just pretended that rule didn't exist. I've only recently come to terms with my destiny to wear mustard and ever since I have, the color has become a staple in my wardrobe. My red hair and pale complexion seem to assure me that it was destiny.

2. It's really hard to go wrong with a brown shoe: I wear a lot of black and white but I pair that combination with a brown shoe. I think it's classy but also unexpected. In both of these outfits, you can tell that the brown shoe adds a new dimension and also keeps the outfit from looking too "put together."
 3. Don't put yourself in a box: If you're feeling grunge'y one day, vintage'y and sweet another day and classy another, don't be afraid to indulge in that! If you're out shopping, don't not buy something that you like simply because it doesn't fit "your aesthetic." If you like it, than it does. Having a versatile wardrobe will make dressing yourself every day fun.

4. Hats are powerful tools: I've found that often times when I feel that my outfit is lacking a certain je ne sais quoi, a nice hat fills the void. They're also wonderful for when my hair is experiencing a particularly flat day. Definitely invest in a good hat.

There you have it! Have any of you guys compiled any styling tips over the years? I'd love to hear!

  1. Brilliant post lady! I have (dyed) red hair and pale skin too, and definitely find that green is my colour. I always get compliments when I wear it so I guess I should do so more! Loving your photos too xx

  3. Man, I really, really like these tips. Some are ones I live by (like the hat rule), but some are ones that I'd never thought of but make a lot of sense (the color one, for example. )Thanks for sharing.

  4. Fantastic post. I have no idea what to do when it comes to fashion. I always wear the same thing and am terrified to try anything new in case someone laughs. Maybe I'll try a pretty floral dress? You really have given me a bit more confidence. Thank you.
