Smoky Watermelon Margarita

watermelon, margarita, mezcal, smoky, salt, tequila, cocktail
I was never a fan of margaritas (too sweet) until I moved to Philly and tried the Watermelon Margarita from Dos Segundos. It was love at first sip. I then dabbled in the margarita arts, never quite finding a fruit and tequila combination that brought me the same amount of joy until I had my first sip of Mezcal in Nashville. Smoky, strong, and splendid. This cocktail is sort of an all-star lineup of my favorite flavors: watermelon, mint, ginger, and smoke.

What you'll need: (make 4 smallish servings... trust me, that's all you'll need)
 - 4 shots of Mezcal
 - 1 bottle of Ginger Beer
 - One spear of watermelon (about 1 1/2 x 4 inches)
 - 4 mint leaves (plus some to garnish)
 - 2 tbsp of lime juice
 - A splash of Orangina (optional)
 - 1 tray of ice cubes
 - Smoked Salt (To rim the glasses. I love this one.)

I know... it's a lot of ingredients but all you have to do is throw 'em all in a blender and mix it up. It sounds kind of summery but the smokiness makes it perfect for autumn. (Think: bonfires.) Before serving, rim the glasses with the salt and garnish with an extra sprig of mint.

Of course I had to sneak a Charlie photo in here for no reason other than the fact that he's just adorable. Anywho, enjoy your refreshing beverage, and sip responsibly!
