We Live Upstairs. As an avid reader of E.M.'s blog, I jumped at the chance to author a guest post for her while she's doing amazing things in China, and I'm excited to share with you today!
A few short weeks ago, I had the busiest weekend of my life. My birthday (and subsequent party), my fiancé's college graduation (and subsequent barrage of visits [both expected and surprise] from family members), and our anniversary were all back-to-back in the same weekend in December. And I don't know about you, but when I have some sort of event to attend, I like to put some effort into my outfit; it makes everything that's going on seem that much more special.
So, as to not drive myself completely insane amidst days of pre-family house cleaning, gift buying, and party planning, I decided to choose one piece out of my closet to build three outfits around. That way, I at least had some direction and wasn't falling into a blind panic as family members walked in the door.
Dress: Vintage; Shirt: Vintage; Blazer & Tights: Target; Shoes: Shoes of Soul; Necklace: Old NavyThe piece I chose is a white, collared shirt with polka-hearts. If you look through any of my outfits, it will only take you seconds to see how much I love a pattern, and especially how much I love to mix them. I kept it fun for my birthday party with a patterned blazer from Target and a black velvet dress. This look was three layers deep, but it was ridic cold outside and I didn't need a coat!
Dress: Old Navy; Necklace: Old Navy; Socks: Target; Shoes: UO We all know graduations tend to be dressy events, and quite a few of Matt's family members were visiting for the occasion, so I wanted to wear something classic and feminine- a wrap dress! I'm so glad I invested in this dress; I can style it so many different ways and I know I'll have it for years to come. And again, I kept it "me" with a pattern and some knee socks.

This last look is what I wore for mine and Matt's anniversary dinner at the end of the weekend. He picked out the skirt (usually I don't seek others' opinions on what I wear, but I wanted to be sure to wear something he likes for this occasion) and I added one of my favorite sweaters and more knee socks : ).

Told you I'd be back in the swing of things soon! It's cold here. Very cold. Feels like eight degrees. Yep, eight! I love it though, it was getting too warm back home! There's snow on the ground here. SNOW! (I'm a snow bunny, in case you didn't know.) Today's (well, yesterday's) outfit isn't anything too special. I love this sweater though, it's so warm! The kids here loved it too. They loved playing with the tassels and putting the folds of fabric over their heads. So adorable! I'm off to go play with them again!
I'm not usually one for resolutions. I think they're really overdone. However, I do have some goals for this year. I started running last year and I want to keep up with it and my goal is to be able to run a marathon. Maybe even the New York marathon? Who knows! My second goal is to visit a new country. I'm currently in China but this one doesn't count because I've been here before. I'm thinking maybe Iceland? Maybe I'll even book a wedding abroad? The third goal that I have for myself this year is a little more basic but will probably be the most difficult. Now that my work load has been increasing, I need to learn how to cherish my "me" time and use it wisely. I want to not be too wasteful but to be able to relax also and not feel the need to be constantly productive. My last goal is for my business. I want to book at least 12 weddings for next year, at least one for every month. It's been amazing to watch my business grow in the past year and I can't wait to watch it grow in 2013. How about y'all? Any goals or resolutions?
Hello all! We made it! Blogging is posing to be a little more of a challenge than I expected but I'll hopefully be completely settled in and back to normal in a few days! Most of the details of the trip can be found at larkandlaceinchina.blogspot.com if you're interested, this blog is going to stay more or less the same. Lots of pretty pictures and few words! I had to share our adorable little room with you all though. Isn't it so quaint and cozy? I was worried that I was wasting a lot of precious cargo space in one of my suitcases by bringing all of my little home'y touches but seeing that I'm very prone to homesickness, it was certainly for the better. Also, I'd like to mention that it is currently 4:45AM here. Jet lag. Gotta love it. No matter, I'm in China!
