some tunes for you

In Our Talons by Bowerbirds on Grooveshark
I really need to start making music more of a regular feature on here. Although this album by Bowerbirds is an oldie but goodie, it's new to me. It's a nice compliment to the symphony of exploding fireworks right outside my window while I'm attempting to get some work done. (For those who don't know, I'm still in China, land of the fireworks.) This is my last weekend here and it's already halfway over! I'm making myself a playlist full of new music to listen to on my long and lonely 19-hour trek back home. (If any of you have any suggestions, throw them at me!) It's the simple things, am I right? Thinking about coming home is a bittersweet sentiment. I miss my family and dog and can't wait to get back on the blog wagon (without having to use a VPN!) but I'm going to miss these kiddos. I'll have some exciting news though, I have a feeling that 2013 is going to be a great year.

the worst kind of crime

Yeah, I know you're not supposed to wear leggings as pants. They just happen to be much more comfortable than actual pants when playing with children all day. Deal with it?

Hello all you lovely Lark & Lace readers! My name is Violet and I am here to share a little bit with you while E.M. is in China being awesome!

I am an Indianapolis based wedding and portrait photographer and a blogger! I love creating and I use my passion for art in both photography and my blog. Last month I was able to photograph Erin's senior session at a local park in Broad Ripple, Indiana. I am so blessed to photograph stunningly beautiful people all the time! I went with filmy tones in editing this session and I was really excited about the results.

We were so excited to still have fall leaves on the trees for this session. Because it was shot in November, we could have expected any kind of weather, but instead got 80 degree weather and beautiful fall leaves. Indy is pretty bi-polar with weather :P

Thank you so much for having me today E.M.! You are awesome and I am so crazy excited to hear all about the wonderful things you see and do in China. Feel free to come say hi at my blog! I love meeting new people and fellow bloggers. You can also find me on Facebook here.

Thank you so much for stopping by Violet! Everybody, I'm a HUGE fan of Violet's work and her blog is always full of adorable things. Please go and check her out!

my past few days:

I've been a little MIA these past few days. While I'm sorry that I haven't really been updating this blog, I can only be a little bit sorry, because the reason I've been neglectful is these beautiful souls. They're seriously changing my life, again. You can find more pictures here

kiddo style

I've found that hanging out with kids will make you dress like one eventually. It's one of those days, ya know? Sometimes you need something colorful and SUPER unflattering. This outfit is reminiscent of the days when I was learning to dress myself and I wanted to wear as many clothes as possible. It's kind of silly and yet, I love it.

I love being the only one awake, I feel like I get most of my work done in the wee hours of morning. I get in the zone and won't let myself go to sleep until I'm done all of my work. Lately, however, I've fallen in love with my morning routine and learned what a pleasant and cheerful person that I can be in the morning. I feel like sort of a black sheep in the creative community because I feel like it's a "go to bed a 4AM and wake up past noon" kind of industry and no matter what time I go to bed, I can't seem to wake up much after 7:00, 7:30. I wasn't feeling too well this morning so I stayed in bed and got work done. I felt like a queen! Nothing like an entire French Press full of black coffee, a little reading, some pajamas, some classic rock, and lots of productivity, all while in bed. I even woke up to the smell of pineapple. Yes, there was a pineapple on my nightstand this morning when I woke up. I don't know what it was doing there but I'm not complaining.

my day in photos.

I shared all of these photos on my China blog but I decided that I had to share them on here as well. These kids are absolutely incredible. They're changing my life. All I want to do is come back (again!) and bring everybody I know.xo, e.m.
