Blue, Lately

Philadelphia, fashion, blog, E.M., Ricchini, Erika, romper, anthropologie, YSL, pumps, nude, This wall used to be a mural of sorts. (It was actually featured in an old post!) While I was a tiny bit sad to see it go, this shade of blue is kind of perfect.

So it's been an interesting past few weeks. My moods have been as unstable as the weather and I feel like everything is in a state of disarray. Transitioning to a new stage in my career, apartment hunting, an inconsistent sleep schedule, and other assorted life events have thrown me into this dizzying sort of "limbo." Luckily, things are settling down and I'm leveling off. As difficult as it is to make my way through times like these, being in constant "crisis mode" gives me a heightened level of self-awareness and I learn things about myself that I never would have otherwise. I've been focusing on taking care of and intentionally spending "quality time" with myself.

1. I've taken quite a shine to South Philly. We were playing around with the idea of moving there but for the time-being, we're staying right where we are. My weekly treat is some Yerba Mate and a gluten-free bagel and vegan cream cheese from Grindcore House followed by a walk to Chhaya and some almond milk Cortados. If you're in the area, definitely check those two out. Frequenting Grindcore House again brings me back to my short-lived college days when I was an angsty girl in a band. Life really does come full-circle.

2. Kombucha beer. Yes. That's a thing. It doesn't have a lot of alcohol in it and tastes nothing like beer yet I can't get enough of it. It's gluten-free and extremely refreshing. The Ginger-Hibiscus flavor is especially delicious and pairs nicely with Thai food, which is my go-to carry out cuisine as of lately.

3. My musical choices have been all over the place lately. I've been listening to Purity Ring's another eternity on repeat in the car. I'm getting over a pretty severe bout of sadness and needed something upbeat to bring me out of the depths of my dismay. This one certainly did the trick.

4. Ever since my (admittedly somewhat mysterious) trip to San Diego, I'd be lying if I said that I haven't entertained the thought of moving to Southern California. My allergies didn't bother me at all and they have an entire beach full of happy dogs running circles around each other, playing in the sand, and jumping in and out of the ocean. Literal perfection.

5. I've had some health issues so I've been experimenting with my diet for the past few months. I didn't realize how much the food I ate affected me until I started enforcing tight restrictions on myself. I even went so far as to track my macros and try to meet a daily goal. I'm still trying to figure out what makes me feel the best and constantly changing it up has become a little frustrating, especially since my body takes a while to get used to the differences. I just want to eat Sweet Freedom chocolate donuts all day. We're all going to die someday anyway, right?

The most important thing I've learned is that it's important to be able to make lists like this. If you can't for yourself, do me a favor and buy yourself a cup of coffee at a local cafe. Instead of playing around on your phone, bring a book. Read it. Put it down every once in a while to soak in the sights and sounds that surround you. Pick something that you like-- the texture of a piece of upholstery, a sweet-smelling scent, the vocal timbre of a stranger-- anything. Think about why you like it. Small observations turn into big revelations.
